I was proud to be in the inaugural ​NYC Turing Fellows class of 2011, so I was delighted when they asked me to design their new website. The focus was on delivering the message of the program quickly and clearly, and providing visiting students a direct and obvious route to the application.

The site is built on the new Squarespace 6 platform, so the most beautiful part of it is actually easily editing the content on the backend.

Longboarding is about freedom; its about choosing your own path and enjoying the journey. That's what Katherine Spriggs and I had in mind when we set out to design a board whose form speaks of uninhibited travel. We envisioned the skateboard as a living creature: fast, sleek, and agile.

We designed the Street Glider to give a smooth, silent ride, using large radius tires with high pressure inner tubes and rubber treads for shock absorption. The carbon fiber body flexes and resists just enough to give the ideal feeling of control during the ride.

We pictured the skateboard as a living creature. The emotion evoked by the feeling of free riding on a longboard is communicated through different feedback channels. Feedback through responsiveness, sound, and the flexing of the board. In this way, the skateboard is almost alive: one with its rider.

The profile is inspired by the skate fish and manta ray, while its top view references the majesty of a diving falcon.

Time is incomprehensible: endlessly cycling and stretching infinitely in both directions. But if time is impossible to understand, how do we assign meaning to it? The answer lies in marking beginning and endings, remembering things past and anticipating future milestones. By choosing these endpoints, we define our perspective and are able to conceptualize and control time.

The Perspective Timepiece is designed to join you in that journey.

The “Time Turner” dial changes the scale of measurement, adjusting the user’s frame of reference, thereby controlling time.

Controlling the speed of time’s passage by changing the endpoints used to describe it provides an entirely new perspective.
